I had fell asleep on the coach with the television on. When I woke up there was a commercial advertising psychics. I thought to myself – “Wow! I haven’t seen  a psychic commercial in a long time.” About 30 minutes later I saw the same psychic commercial running again. I realized then that the psychic networks of the 80s and 90s are back. And what is wrong with that? What’s wrong with having someone “give you a reading”? What’s so wrong with going to a psychic? Well, there is a lot wrong with going to a psychic. In over 15 years of ministry, I have dealt with some of the most diabolical demonization from people who have gone to psychics. Here are 3 significant problems with consulting a psychic.

1. Going to a psychic causes you to come under a curse.

You are wearied with your many counsels; Let now the astrologers, Those who prophesy by the stars, Those who predict by the new moons, Stand up and save you from what will come upon you.Behold, they have become like stubble, Fire burns them; They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame; There will be no coal to warm by Nor a fire to sit before!… Isaiah 47:13-14.  This scripture is pretty clear, when someone goes to a psychic they suffer destruction. Because God admonishes us to seek Him concerning our future, when we consult a psychic, what we are saying is we do not believe that God holds our future so we must go to someone else. Real psychics actually seek familiar spirits. Familiar spirits are demonic spirits that have followed you and your family and know things about you. But they only know what they see. They do not know eternal things about you.

2. Going to a psychic cause poverty.

People who consult psychics receive a curse of poverty.  Isaiah 8:19-21 says: When they say to you, ‘Consult the mediums and the spiritist (psychics) who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. They will pass through the land hard-pressed and famished, and it will turn out that when they are hungry, they will be enraged and curse their king and their God as they face upward. This scripture clearly states that people who consult psychics and mediums (people who consult the dead) suffer lack.

3. Going to a psychic is an abomination to God

When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Deuteronomy 18:9-13. God hates when people consult psychics or practice psychic activities.

There is another way

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to know what your future holds. God says that when we are filled with His Holy Spirit we will “know all things.” I John 2:27. Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will reveal to us what we should know about ourselves.  But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you, John 16:13-14. God wants you to know what will happen in your future. He just wants you consult Him to find out about what is going to happen.

God also uses prophets to share people’s future

In contrast to psychics, prophets are God’s holy spokespeople who are anointed by the Holy Spirit to speak into people’s lives and share with them what is to come. God’s prophets prophesy under the unction of the Spirit of God. But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation (I Corinthians 14:3).
